Editing a Newsletter/New Newsletter

May 11, 2023

To create a new Newsletter, head to the Newsletter Manager and click the Add Newsletter button at the top of the page.

To edit an existing newsletter, head to the Newsletter Manager and click the edit pencil next to the newsletter you'd like to change.

Once you've done either of these, you'll be taken into the first page of the Newsletter wizard

Add/Change Newsletter - Page 1
On page one, the General information about the newsletter, you'll see options for Template, Issue Name, Publish Date, and Status.
Template - This is the template file that will be used for the newsletter.  If you need help creating a template, please see our help file on creating Newsletter Templates.
Issue Name - The Issue Name will appear at the top of the newsletter.
Publish Date - Select a date in the future to coordinate your newsletters.  This allows for the creation of multiple newsletters at once with different publish dates for each.
Status (Active/Inactive) - Select Active if this newsletter is ready, or Inactive if you'd like to work on it more before releasing it to your membership.

Add/Change Newsletter - Page 2
Page 2 of the newsletter editor is where the bulk of the content is added.  You'll see your newsletter template, and options to add features.

Types of Features

At the time of this writing, there are 5 different types of features that you may include in a newsletter:

Article / Text / Image  - This is the standard newsletter feature, an article.  You specify a title, author, an intro (blurb), and the full text.  The title, author, and blurb show up on the main newsletter page (the email), with a link to allow the viewer to read to the article full text.  Images (in png or jpg format) will automatically resize down to the width of the column you are placing them in.

Index of Articles - Ideally in the left column at the top, this is a summary list of all the articles in the newsletter.

Calendar Events Import - This feature allows you to grab event information from the calendar of events, and load it into a newsletter feature.  The events have links to their respective event details page (part of the calendar module).  Once imported, you may update the feature, adding/editing/removing events.

New Member Database Import - Similar to the Calendar import, this allows you to import a list of new members (to recognized new members who have joined recently).

Community Posts -  If your organization has Newsletter Submissions enabled, adding a Community Posts feature will pull in approved posts that your members have submitted for a date range that you specify.

Editing

To add a new feature, simply click on the 'Add Feature' button at the bottom of any column.  From there, select which feature you want to create and follow the prompts from the pop-up dialog.

To edit a feature, you can click on the edit pencil above the article, or simply click within the article itself.  This will open up the editing dialog where you can make changes to your newsletter.

To add additional story content (that the user will have to click a link at the bottom of the article to see) click on the 'Add Additional Story Content' at the bottom of any article.  This will again bring up the dialog editor and you can add all of your additional content from there.
